Barite: Higher Performance, Better Finish and Lower Cost in Powder Coatings
17 July 2026

Barite is a natural mineral composed primarily of barium sulfate (BaSO₄).

Although it has diverse applications, our focus is on its use as a filler in the powder coating industry, resulting from its physical and chemical properties.

One of the most important factors is particle size. Finer grades of barite give a better finish, obtaining smoother and more uniform surfaces.

Its main function is to optimize the balance between cost, performance and coating properties. We highlight the following aspects that make this product stand out from others:

  • Reduces the overall cost of the formulation (partially replaces more expensive resins and pigments);
  • Allows better control of melt viscosity during application;
  • Helps to obtain smoother and more uniform surfaces;
  • Controls gloss (can ensure more matte finishes);
  • Improves coverage (especially in well-formulated systems);
  • It is compatible with epoxy, polyester, and hybrid systems.

Hoyonn Chemicals, with whom we have had regular contact since Chinacoat 2024, has proven to be a reliable partner in this product range, presenting us with a portfolio of diverse references that serve as direct alternatives to the most common references on the market, with excellent handling, as reported by our regular barite customers.

We are available to provide all clarifications, and we are happy to assist in specific formulations that the market may require.
