Flame retardants play a fundamental role in preventing fires, by inhibiting ignition and delaying the spread of flames.
Our partner KMT is specialized in developing and producing magnesium hydroxide-based flame retardants, including precipitated and hexagonal magnesium hydroxides, as well as hydromagnesite. This is a versatile and functional additive – it does not release toxic substances, thus avoiding harmful effects on the environment and human health.
Magnesium hydroxide has become one of the most popular inorganic flame retardants, and has varied applications. It has become a safer alternative to traditional halogenated flame retardants, which have been linked to a variety of environmental and health concerns.
One of its characteristics is that it has a high decomposition temperature, around 340ºC, making it suitable for PVC compounds and polymers with high process temperatures, such as polyamides and polyesters.
