Magnesium hydroxide – flame retardant
18 November 2024

Flame retardants play a fundamental role in preventing fires, by inhibiting ignition and delaying the spread of flames.

Our partner KMT is specialized in developing and producing magnesium hydroxide-based flame retardants, including precipitated and hexagonal magnesium hydroxides, as well as hydromagnesite. This is a versatile and functional additive – it does not release toxic substances, thus avoiding harmful effects on the environment and human health.

Magnesium hydroxide has become one of the most popular inorganic flame retardants, with a variety of applications. Today, it is a safer alternative to traditional halogenated flame retardants, which have been associated with a variety of environmental and health concerns.

One of its characteristics is that it has a high decomposition temperature, around 340ºC, making it suitable for PVC compounds and polymers with high process temperatures, such as polyamides and polyesters.
